How To choose A Barrel Sauna

A barrel sauna is the quickest way to get genuine, even heat in a garden. Because the walls curve, there is less air to warm and the heat circulates without cold corners, so most reach temperature in around twenty minutes. The shape also sheds rain and snow on its own, which matters in a British winter.

Timber is the first decision. Thermowood is spruce baked until it is dimensionally stable and rot-resistant, which makes it our default for the British climate. Western Red Cedar is lighter, naturally oily and aromatic, and a little softer underfoot. Both will last decades if you let them breathe.

Electric or wood-fired?

An electric heater is set-and-forget: a dial, a timer, and you walk out to a warm room. A wood-fired stove asks for ten minutes of tending and gives back the crackle, the smell, and total independence from the grid. We size the stove to the cabin every time, so the heat is right rather than fierce.
